One of the first steps in helping communities recover from Hurricane Helene is to get the lights back on. DTE deployed nearly 100 of our lineworkers this week to help our peers at Georgia Power do just that. These lineworkers join the 500 DTE contract crews and tree trimmers who have been working on restoration since last week. This is dangerous work in challenging conditions, but our teams are determined to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Overhead lineworkers spend four years learning the trade and many years after honing their skills. For the next several weeks, DTE lineworkers and lineworkers from across the country will be putting those specialized skills to work far from home doing the work only they can do. Thank you to the DTE teams who left last week and very early on Tuesday morning to make the trip south. We know it’s hard to work 16-hour days and be away from your friends and family. We’re grateful, as always, for your grit and commitment – and we look forward to welcoming you home. Here's a message from Clint Black, a team member on the ground in Georgia, with an update on conditions and what are our teams are facing.

On Tuesday, extreme weather swept through Michigan and caused outages for more than 330,000 DTE customers. Our teams responded as they always do – with grit and determination. We were able to restore 220,000 of these customers within a day, which is the highest one-day restoration in our company’s history. The team kept up an incredible pace, while always staying safe, and by Friday evening 99.9% of the impacted customers had their lights back on. I’m so proud to work with a team that always shows up for our customers, the communities we serve and each other.

We’re on a journey to reduce power outages by 30% and the time customers are without power by 50% -- all by 2029. Automating the grid will play a large role in reaching this goal. So far in 2024, our automated devices have prevented nearly 5,000 customer power interruptions and 1.8 million outage minutes. And we’re just getting started. My co-worker MarKeith LaVar Poteat, M.B.A., PMP does a great job of explaining what automation does and how it will make power more reliable for our customers.

A year ago, a tornado devastated the Williamston and Webberville area. As our crews were restoring power, we were deeply moved by the communities’ spirit and kindness – to each other and to our lineworkers. I shared my thoughts with the Lansing State Journal on this event and the nearly $20 million investment DTE is making in the area to create a more resilient grid that’s ready for whatever Mother Nature sends our way. https://lnkd.in/gJ8rBT3r
